Address by H.E. Ambassador Youri Babakhanian on the occasion of 30-th Anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia

Ladies and gentlemen,

Today we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia. Congratulating all of us on this prominent occasion I want to bow my head and pay special tribute to our heroes who fought for the independence and created the thirty-year history.

Over the past 30 years we have faced numerous challenges: wars, blockade, energy and economic crises and many others.

However, I am convinced that these difficulties cannot break the will of the Armenian people who have coped with even greater trials during 5 millennia of their existence.

As during the crucial days of gaining independence, and in the difficult years that followed, today our state faces many challenges, the key to overcoming which is exclusively in our hands. Nowadays every Armenian in different corners of the world is concerned how to contribute to the development and strengthening of our Motherland.

Today more than ever before we should feel responsible for maintaining and strengthening Armenia`s independence, statehood and sovereignty.

History will never forgive us if we do not take full advantage of the unique opportunity given to us to create a modern democratic state. We are not afraid of challenges; we are ready to face them.

Dear friends,

Throughout the millennial history the Armenian people have repeatedly proved its unbreakable will to live and create peacefully on its own land.

Our dream is to build a democratic, human-like and peace-loving state, but this does not mean that we cannot protect our Homeland and its future from external aggression.

I am confident that together, unified by collective potential and resources of our people and in cooperation with our real allies we are going to overcome all the challenges imposed to us and will build a strong, just, prosperous country for present and future generations.

Long live the independent Republic of Armenia! Long live our people in Armenia, Artsakh and the Diaspora!
